Herb Garden

Here’s the herb garden.

Our apartment is on the ground floor and we have a really nice little
garden patch (about 2 feet deep by 25 feet long) along the side of our
house. Unfortunately, as city people, Steve and I aren’t very capable
in the yard and for the last year it has been completely neglected.

The hot peppers– they’re white right now.

A little parsley and thyme.

This weekend we finally had two gardeners come over and remove all the
debris and a couple dead trees (casualties of the typhoon). In
addition, they planted over 100 herb plants for us—it is a cook’s
dream! They planted 35 hot pepper plants, so I’m guessing that they
assume we eat like locals.

We now have fresh basil, lemon basil, mint, lemon balm, sage, thyme, curly parsley, what I think is bayleaf, and of course the hot peppers.
We still need cilantro, which they call parsley here, and we’re hoping they’ll be able to find Italian parsley, but we’re not getting our hopes up.

So if you’re in the mood for a home cooked meal, complete with fresh herbs, hop on the next flight to Taipei and we’ll have dinner waiting.

A photo from Laura’s birthday party last year.  It seems like so long ago.

Tis the season for birthdays and this time it was Laura’s turn to celebrate her birthday.  The birthday parties started at 10AM and lasted through the night.  After leaving school we headed over to the American Club to meet some friends for drinks and snacks and then made our way over to the Flying Squadron, a place you have to see with your own eyes to appreciate it.

I hope you’re booking your ticket to be here for the grand opening of the first Harley Davidson dealer in Taiwan.

We saw this today on our way to Costco and thought this would tempt you to come out for a visit.  It’s only 5 miles from our house.

Taipei 101

Last night we headed out to meet a friend for dinner and some shopping around Taipei 101. The weather has finally changed and we are back to wearing coats, a nice feeling after living through the 100 degree humid summers.

It’s impossible to walk anywhere within 10 miles Taipei 101 and not take a picture. The hardest part about it is trying to put things into perspective since it’s so big.

Around 101 are several shopping malls. This one is called New York, New York and has the appropriate decorations.

New York, New York at night. You’ll find Starbucks, Cold Stone Creamery, theaters and restaurants inside.

Looks like United Colors of Benetton to me.

Plenty of sake choices at this restaurant.
