Singapore Grand Prix Sept. 26, 27 & 28

Formula 1 is not the most popular sport in the United States and it gets very little media coverage.  Even though I’ve been following F1 since 1993 I have only been to one race.  They race at tracks all over the world, and as luck would have it as soon as Laura and I move away from Singapore they start going into talks about hosting their first race.  Our home in Singapore would have only been about 5 minutes from the track, it’s too bad.

After much waiting, my freind Dan and I are heading to Singapore next weekend to see the world’s first F1 night race.  It should be exciting.

Wild times: Earthquakes and Typhoons

Update: We ended up with 14 inches of rain in 2 days!

It’s 3PM and we’ve already had 3 inches of rain dumpped on us today from typhoon Sinlaku.  The worst part of the storm isn’t supposed to hit for about 18 more hours so I’m sure we’ll see a lot more rain and wind before it’s over.  Right now, gusts are at 130mph and surprisingly we still have electricity, being in the city helps shield us from some of the wind.

The typhoon’s not the only drama right now.  We had a small earthquake on the south end of the island this morning, but we didn’t feel it.  That’s two earthquakes in the last three days.  What fun.

Here’s a screen shot of our the Central Weather Bureau’s website.  We are buried below that mass of swirling clouds.

A new low?

Dear friends,

I believe I have hit a new low.  Living in Asia means that you see Hello Kitty paraphernalia EVERYWHERE  you can’t escape it!  We have planes painted in the color scheme and our airport has an entire lounge section dedicated to this theme.  It’s on shirts, socks, shoes everywhere and we are not fans.

It has been hot lately and a popsicle hits the spot sometimes.  Laura and I scooted up to the local grocery store and I was looking for popsicles and they only had one brand………………Hello Kitty.  Needless to say, I set my dislike of the billion dollar brand aside and bought into their trap.  I’m sorry.

Steve

All wasn’t lost on our trip to the store though.  We found a someone on the sidewalk with boxes of fresh peaches and sampled them.  They tasted like candy.

It’s been nearly four years

Nearly four years ago we witnessed something terrifying and were contacted by ABC to conduct some interviews. We saw part of one interview briefly, but hadn’t seen them in their entirety until recently. The first interview shown is with Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America and the second one is on a late night news program. It is an interesting bit of our history now.
