I was blogging for a graduate class that Laura and I are taking and wrote the following post and thought it might be interesting for family and friends to see too.

I had to laugh when I saw this photo.

Sitting around programming a Commodore Vic-20 in 1982

While looking for an appropriate avatar for my COETAIL (Certificate of Educational Technology and Information Literacy) class I came across this long lost photo.  Here’s a boy that was once on the cutting edge of technology, seen here programing a Commodore Vic-20, circa 1982, in his bedroom.  Granted the programs were very rudimentary, but they were cutting edge at the time.

Of course when my wife saw the photo and I tell her the story about teaching myself how to program back in 1982 all she can think of is why didn’t I keep programing and become the founding father of Microsoft, Adobe, Yahoo, Google…$$$.   We’ll I didn’t keep programing, because I became more interested in…let’s say the opposite sex.  I was in 7th grade after all.

Move forward 28 years and I now find myself sitting in a classroom on a beautiful Saturday just trying to stay ‘information literate’.  Life is funny.

After more than 2200 photos from our trip home there a few that stand out.  As always it’s friends and family that make our trips home so much fun.  Here’s a collection of some friendly faces we saw.

And finally... The one and only Catherine.

Hong Kong Island from Kowloon

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting in one of my favorite cities with my favorite photographer, my dad. My dad came out to Taiwan for a one week trip that included 2 nights and 3 days in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is an amazing city and no matter how many times you go there or who you go with, you’ll see something new.

While we were there this time it was the peak of Chinese New Year which meant a couple things, the streets would be relatively quite but that also meant that many of the shops would be closed too. The shops being closed didn’t really have much affect on us since we weren’t there for shopping. And when I say relatively quiet it means that there is still A LOT of foot traffic going on, it’s just low by HK standards.

A different view of Hong Kong

All in all, considering the wet, cool, weather and the holiday conditions it was a wonderful trip.  To go to Hong Kong with another photographer stretches you to see things you don’t normally see.

Walking along the cemetery in Berchtesgaden

Day two was mostly spent in Berchtesgaden roaming the streets, eating wonderful food and visiting a family grave site.  The beautiful weather of the previous day had left and we were stuck with overcast, rain filled skies.

Any guess as to what's in that cup?

Hellooooo giant pork knuckle, dumplings, gravy and sauerkraut. We're not on Taipei anymore.

The town was surprisingly empty for this time of year.
